Walter (23), Carolina (19) and Antonio Steven (3 mths)

Walter and Carolina have been together for five years since they met in the park selling sweets. They live either in a homeless shelter, or occasionally at his mother's house. Walter has been unable to get a job because of his gang tattoos – he makes money through petty thievery or street selling.

He has been living the street life for fourteen years "I felt like leaving home to live rough. I have the freedom to live independently here; no one tells me what to do." But he says doesn't want the same independence for his son: "I want to bring my son up to be a man – we will stay united as a family because we don't want our baby to suffer as we have".
